Erebus

Planet Overview

Erebus-1 is a small, rocky planet orbiting a blue star. Once a vibrant world, it was rendered lifeless by genetic experiments, leaving it with a thin, metallic-tasting atmosphere saturated with high levels of radiation. Due to the radiation, Arthur will advise you to wear a spacesuit before disembarking if you are not a meta-human.

Main Quest: Save Erebus

This quest involves attempting to bring life back to the desolate planet.

• How to Start: The quest is likely initiated by discovering the native life form on the planet.
• Steps:
      1.  Travel to Erebus-1 from the galaxy map on your ship.
      2.  Explore the Surface: Repeatedly choose to explore the surface. This has a random chance of leading you to a cave.
      3.  Discover the Creature: Inside the cave, you will find the last remaining "Erebian life" form.
      4.  Extract DNA: The quest objective is to extract the creature's DNA, which will likely involve a follow-up conversation or action with Arthur.
      5.  Wait for the Serum: After obtaining the DNA, you must wait for Arthur to develop a serum to restore life to the planet.

Side Quest: Thauselite Excavation

This is a repeatable gathering mission.

• Objective: Collect 200 units of Thauselite from the hazardous mines on Erebus-1.
• How to Start: This mission is likely available from the missions tab on the ship's bridge after discovering Nova Nexus.

Activities on Erebus-1

Exploring the Surface

This is the main activity on the planet. From the landing site, you can choose to explore the surface. Each exploration is a random event with one of three outcomes:

1.  You find nothing of interest.
2.  You discover a Thauselite vein.
3.  You discover the cave where the last Erebian creature resides.

Mining Thauselite

Erebus-1 is the primary source for the rare and valuable mineral, Thauselite.

• Finding a Vein: You can randomly discover a Thauselite vein while exploring the surface. You can only find one vein per day.
• Mining: To mine the vein, you must have a Thauselite Pickaxe in your inventory. This can be crafted by Alastor. Mining a vein yields a random amount of Thauselite, but be aware that the pickaxe has limited durability and will eventually break.

The Cave and the Creature

Discovering the cave leads to an encounter with the last native creature of Erebus-1. Your interactions can change depending on who is in your party.

• With Hakkon: If Hakkon is in your party, he will communicate with the creature. He will express a desire to stay and help it reproduce, asking you to return later with a "female" for it.
• With Zyron: If Zyron is with you, his first instinct will be to kill the creature. You will have the choice to either stop him or let him proceed.
• Alone: If you are alone or with other companions, you will simply observe the strange creature before leaving.
